Below is an excerpt from a recent interview of Estelle Reyna by One2One Magazine...

Q: What defines you as a woman?

I cherish and celebrate the fact that I am a woman. My loving, nurturing and caring side are feminine traits that I am very proud of. I believe that, if you asked my friends and loved ones, they would tell you that they like my drive, passion for life, and my enthusiasm and dedication to all things that make life so special: friends, family, relationships, love, affection and my career.

Q: Would you want your daughter to live your life?

I would want my daughter to enjoy a happier childhood than the one I experienced. A big portion of my current happiness is due to the stark contrast between my childhood and adolescence and the (adult) life I am living now. It is easier to enjoy what you have in the NOW, if you had little or nothing in the past. I would want my daughter to enjoy a full and rewarding life from the start and I would show her the world through my eyes while empowering her to become a beautiful human being. I would also make her aware of the fact the she is lucky and help her understand how and why certain people are less fortunate.

Q: How do you deal with men in your business? What’s dating like with all the traveling?

Real men are not intimidated by women with brains and beauty; they find it attractive and deeply enjoy it. I have never been interested in a person who was only looking for beauty since looks are just the icing on the cake and not the real basis for a healthy relationship. When you find the person who makes you laugh when you feel like crying, looks at you like you are the most beautiful creature on earth, loves you unconditionally even when you don’t deserve it and makes you feel butterflies in your stomach at all times, you know you hit the jackpot.

Q: What’s one major lesson you’ve learned in your career? What defines success to you? What plans do you have for your future?

One important lesson that I have learned is that success does not come easily. If it did, everyone would be successful, just like everybody would be in perfect shape. “Success” to me means happiness and fulfillment. In order to find “happiness” and “fulfillment” one has to work extremely hard and stay focused on the task at hand. My plans for the future are to become ultimately successful in all areas of life: love, spirituality, health, work, and family. The greatest success in life is to find a perfect balance between all the things that make us happy.

Q: What are you passionate about? Work? Art? Family?

I am passionate about all things that make life worthwhile living. I am passionate about the flowers in my garden, my own home made lasagna, the Paris night life, the raw beauty of the Fiji Islands, my health/beauty regimen, my bird house collection, helping animal causes, sky diving, etc. I could tell you a million things I am passionate about and the reason is very simple: I am hopeless romantic who cannot live without passion. PASSION is the food that nourishes my soul, mind and body.

Q: How would you define culture in today’s age? On your show, how do you try to pay homage to a particular culture differently than other travel programs?

While there are many talented people in the world, it seems that the proliferation of media has put way too many amateurs in the spotlight. Ancient and remote cultures and civilizations are either extinct or not re-visited enough. That bothers me. On “Estelle’s Paradise”, I try to wander off the beaten path and focus on what strikes me, especially the non-obvious, the little details that add a whole new layer of richness and diversity to any location. Rather than interviewing the docent of a cathedral, I would focus on interviewing the sculptor who dedicates his life to keeping the architecture alive. I heard a quote once that said to be happy in life, you have to make your own order of things. How do you make order in your life?

Your direction in life is dictated by your priorities. If you decide that you are miserable, you certainly will become and feel miserable. If you make a more positive decision and act upon it, you will find happiness and fulfillment. There is a time for everything. Life is about balance. Balance is what gives us sanity and keeps us away from unhealthy addictions. There is only one justifiable addiction in life and that is “love”.
